Wishing the Sharks a happy Thanksgiving Published Nov. 20, 2007 By Brig. Gen. Susan Helms 45th SW Public Affairs` PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Our tradition of Thanksgiving reminds us each November of all we have to be thankful for. It reminds us to pause and be thankful for our families, our friends, our freedom and for the never-to-be-taken-for-granted opportunity to live here in the United States of America. And for me, it means something else as well: The opportunity to offer my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to you, the Airmen and civilians of the 45th Space Wing and our mission partners. I am humbled by your efforts and so very thankful for everything you do on a daily basis to make the 45th SW and the Space Coast area such a great place to work and live. As we are all painfully aware, that freedom we hold so dear is currently under attack. It is certainly not the first time in our history we have been in this position. Like you, I am forever thankful for the thousands of Airmen - and all servicemembers regardless of their branch of service - who currently stand point at remote places of duty around the globe. Those who are not deployed should remember the families of deployed service members and include them in your holiday plans. I know the Patrick Air Force community will do the right thing when it comes to taking care of our own. I will finish by asking you to be very careful this weekend. This is one of the busiest travel weekends of the year. If you are traveling, please do not be in too big of a hurry to get where you are going. Plan ahead, leave in plenty of time and take your time on the road. I need each and every one of you Sharks to get back to work - we still have much to do. And what will I be thankful for? Well, that's obvious! I'm thankful for the humbling opportunity to lead the greatest Wing in the United States Air Force! Happy Thanksgiving and Go Sharks!
