Ninety-two members from the 45th Space Wing woke up early Saturday morning, Oct. 19, to volunteer in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk held at Space Coast Stadium in Viera, Fla.

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk has been held in Viera every year since 2007. Thousands of people participated in the walk, and proceeds from the event will be used by the American Cancer Society.

Two teams from the base actually participated in the walk, a team from the 45th Security Forces Squadron and a team from the Air Force Technical Applications Center.

This year's walk had 11,000 participants total and raised $220,000.

Along with the many walkers who participated were many breast cancer survivors. However, they were not the only cancer survivors who took part in the walk; survivors of many different types of cancer also participated with a total of 217 total survivors.

"As a cancer survivor myself, I can tell you that support from family, friends and coworkers, a positive attitude and a strong will really made a difference in my recovery and remission," said Lil Cassidy, Community Support Coordinator and the Integrated Delivery System Chair for the 45th Space Wing.
