Over a four-week period, Space Launch Delta 45 completed a series of rigorous readiness exercises designed to sharpen the unit’s capabilities and prepare for a variety of potential scenarios. From testing rapid deployment skills to managing public health crises, active shooter threats, and launch anomalies, the exercises aimed to enhance the Delta’s ability to respond quickly and efficiently.

“Readiness is not a one-time event; it’s a continuous process,” said Brig. Gen. Panzenhagen, SLD 45 Commander. “Our Airmen and Guardians are committed to excellence, and this series has shown how practice brings us closer to perfection, especially in a world where great power competition demands our best.”

The four exercises began with a rapid deployment readiness drill, evaluating the unit's ability to mobilize swiftly and execute its mission. Following this, the public health readiness exercise tested emergency response procedures to address potential health threats on base. An active shooter drill heightened situational awareness and defense tactics, while the launch anomaly exercise focused on preserving operational integrity during unforeseen challenges.

To ensure realism and challenge participants, the Inspector General’s office embedded several difficult scenarios throughout. “We created complex injects to simulate the pressure and unpredictability of real-world situations,” said SLD 45 Inspector General, Director of Exercises, Greg Firkel. “From communication breakdowns to time-sensitive problem-solving, our goal was to test and validate our response mechanisms.”

Participants expressed the value of these high-pressure scenarios. “The scenarios assess where our team excels while also revealing opportunities for growth,” said Heidi Hunt, SLD 45 Public Affairs Community Engagement Chief.  “It's through these challenges that our team builds resilience and readiness for what lies ahead.”

As the great power competition evolves, SLD 45 remains dedicated to maintaining peak readiness.

“These exercises remind us of our mission’s importance and how every detail matters,” Brig. Gen. Panzenhagen emphasized. “Our team is focused, resilient, and ready to deliver for our nation.”
