Patrick firefighter best NCO in AFSPC Published May 11, 2007 By Amn David Dobrydney 45th Space Wing Public Affairs PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- An NCO stationed at Patrick AFB is one of the top five outstanding Airmen in Air Force Space Command. Tech. Sgt. Jeremy Griffin, 45th Civil Engineering Squadron, fire protection station captain was awarded this distinction at Space Command's Outstanding Airmen of the Year Banquet April 27. "It's truly an honor and a humbling experience," said Sergeant Griffin. The honor comes as no surprise to Scott Logue, 45th CES fire chief, who describes Sergeant Griffin as a "take charge individual." "Jeremy is a role model and mentor for the young fire fighters," said Chief Logue. "He leads by example and will not ask the fire fighters to accomplish anything that he has not or is not willing to do himself." Sergeant Griffin said the key to his success lies in having good mentors and supervisors. In addition to speaking highly of Chief Logue, Sergeant Griffin spoke of the Deputy Fire Chief Master Sgt. Joseph Walker. "[Sergeant Walker] takes time for Airmen and junior NCOs," said Sergeant Griffin, "He genuinely cares about his subordinates." Sergeant Griffin also credits his wife Rebekah, who supported him through two deployments to Iraq in the past three years. 45th SW Command Chief Master Sgt. Dennis Vannorsdall expressed pride in Sergeant Griffin. "Jeremy is the kind of young man who makes us all proud to serve and proud to wear the uniform," he said. "We wish him well as he competes at the Air Force level. The Sharks couldn't be represented by a finer Airman." For young Airmen who aspire to reach the same elite as Sergeant Griffin, he offers this advice: "Listen to senior personnel and their advice, and take care of your subordinates because in the long run, they take care of you."
