2007 Air Force Assistance Fund drive exceeds goal Published May 18, 2007 By Capt. Robert Corby AFAF campaign manager Patrick AFB -- The 2007 Air Force Assistance Fund (AFAF) campaign, "Commitment to Caring", concluded May 4, exceeding its goal by more than $6,000. The campaign, which kicked off March 26, was a resounding success. The PAFB/CCAFS goal for this year's six-week campaign was $40,744, with 100-percent contact of all assigned AF personnel. The PAFB/CCAFS community really stepped up and exceeded the goal in the fifth week of the campaign. We started this campaign with the belief that the AFAF is a great opportunity for Air Force members to "take care of their own" and it is apparent that this community believes that as well. Contributions are still coming in. "I am in awe of the generosity of this community," said Brig. Gen. Susan Helms, 45th Space Wing commander. "The AFAF is an important piece of how we take care of Airmen and it is obvious just how important that is to our community." More than 25 percent of 45th SW personnel donated to one or more of the AFAF charities. Everyone did a great job of canvassing their units and it shows in the level of donations this year; an overwhelming majority of units exceeded their contribution goals. Special recognition has to go out to the 45th Launch Group which not only more than doubled their goal this year but did so with more than 50 percent of their people contributing to the AFAF. The 45th LCG started this campaign off strong and never let the pace slow. The 45th LCG unit project officers are: Capt. Liza Dillard, Capt. Le'Twan Tate, Master Sgt. Matthew Barkley and Tech. Sgt. Scotty Willis. The AFAF was established to provide for an annual effort to raise funds for the charitable affiliates that provide support to the Air Force family (active duty, retirees, reservist, guard and their dependents, including surviving spouses) in need. These organizations help Air Force people with aid in emergencies, with educational needs or to have a secure retirement home for widows or widowers of Air Force members.
