45th SW joins beach cleanup Published Sept. 11, 2007 By Terri Bracher 45th Civil Engineer Squadron PATRICK AFB, Fla. -- Many 45th Space Wing employees, contractors and their families will join the general public to fight the war on trash Sept. 11 and 15 during annual beach cleanups. Each year, the wing joins the Brevard County effort during the Ocean Conservancy Florida Coastal Cleanup, sponsored locally by Keep Brevard Beautiful, Inc. The Cape Canaveral AFS beach cleanup will be Tuesday from 8 to11 a.m. with a picnic following the cleanup. Hangar F will be the check-in point to sign in and pick up supplies, and will also be the site for the picnic. For anyone interested in making it a family fun day, placards will be available at the south gate entry only. Each vehicle must have one Cape-badged person for entry onto the Cape. The Patrick beach cleanup will take place Sept. 15 from 8 a.m. until noon. The check-in point to sign in and pick up supplies will be Pier/Central Beach (just to the south of the flashing yellow signal for the PAFB fire department) on A1A. Family members and the public are welcome. Beach litter reduces the aesthetic appeal of our natural environment and endangers marine life through starvation, strangulation and suffocation. People can help by being responsible about litter and recycling and getting involved in community cleanup activities. T-shirts will be given to each participant while supplies last. For more information on the Patrick cleanup, call Keitha Dattilo-Bain at 494-5286 and for Cape Canaveral AFS call Lynda Dawe at 853-6518.
