New wing commander selected

45th Space Wing Commander Brig. Gen. Susan Helms recently received an assignment to Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., where she will be director of Plans and Programs for United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM). 

She will be directly responsible to the USSTRATCOM Commander for the development and implementation of national security policy and guidance; military strategy and guidance; space and weapons employment concepts and policy; and joint doctrine as they apply to the command and the execution of its missions. 

She will also be responsible for the development of the nation's strategic war plan, strategic support plans for theater combatant commanders and contingency planning for the global strike mission. 

The incoming commander is Brig. Gen. Edward Bolton, currently serving as Deputy Director, Systems Integration and Engineering, National Reconnaissance Office, Chantilly, Va. In this position as the NRO's chief architect, he works with senior program managers to define the Integrated NRO architecture for space-based reconnaissance and intelligence systems, and ensures its interoperability, compatibility, and integration with civil and commercial space architectures. 

There is no scheduled date for the change of command.
