Going Down! Selected Central Housing units targeted for demolition Published Jan. 29, 2010 By 2nd Lt. Trisha Guillebeau 45th Space Wing Public Affairs Jan. 22, 2010 -- Recently, the Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment authorized Hunt Pinnacle Communities LLC to move forward with the demolition of 68 old units in Central Housing. With this authorization, Hunt Pinnacle began mobilizing, and buildings on Blue Sky Lane have started coming down. Safety is a primary concern for Central Housing residents during the demolition project. All demolition areas have been fenced off for safety. Residents are strongly advised to stay out of those areas. Yet, while safety is paramount, residents may not notice much about the demolition. "Other than a brief power outage at 12 units, there should not be much impact to the residents," said Mike McDonald, Privatization Project Engineer. "Truck traffic is going out the north end of Forecast Lane right to the truck gate, not through any residential areas." There are small changes, however. "During the pre-construction phase, we coordinated with the Security Forces Squadron to allow construction traffic to enter and exit off of Forecast Lane to the Truck Gate," said Lt. Col. Brian Weidmann, commander, Civil Engineering Squadron. "Hunt Pinnacle installed an access gate there." The school bus stop across from Misty Lane has also been relocated to the corner of Breakers and Forecast Lane. Residents' mailboxes previously located there have been moved as well. The scheduled end of the demolition project is the end of April. The future use of the empty space is undetermined, but for now grading and grass establishment of the open area is scheduled through the end of June.
