May is Military Appreciation Month, and May 6 has been designated as National Military Spouses' Day. Military Spouse Day has been observed since May 23, 1984, when a proclamation by President Ronald Reagan recognized the profound importance of spouse commitment to the readiness and well-being of military members.

"When Americans answer the call to serve in our Armed Forces, a sacred trust is forged. Our men and women in uniform take on the duty of protecting us all, and their spouses and families also help shoulder this important responsibility," said President Barack Obama in the 2010

Military Spouses' Day Proclamation. "There are many ways for each of us to show our appreciation for military spouses. Working through community based organizations, workplaces, schools, and places of worship, we can help them support their families, establish or build a career, and address the unique challenges they face." Please remember to thank your spouse for all they do!

An Award Ceremony for the Patrick AFB Spouse of the Year will be held at the Airman and Family Readiness Center May 11 from noon to 1 p.m. For details, please contact Richard Elsbury at 494-5676.
