Maj. (select) Steve Engler lost his fight with cancer Saturday evening.

A member of the 17th Test Squadron, Detachment 3, Patrick AFB, he was previously assigned to the 5th Space Launch Squadron, Cape Canaveral AFS.

Maj. (sel.) Engler is survived by his wife, Gina, and three children, Ashlyn, 7, Ryan, 17, and Katlyn, 22.

A memorial service is scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m., at the South Patrick Chapel. Graveside service will follow, at Florida Memorial Gardens, 5950 S U.S. Highway 1, Rockledge. A reception is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at the DV suite at the north end of the Block House.

"Before Steve passed, he asked me to thank the Air Force and everyone at Patrick for all of their help," said Maj. Dewey Lively, 17 TS Det 3 director of operations.

"He was given two weeks to live and almost made it a month. In that small amount of time the base jumped through hoops to make his last days happy. We had a 'pin-on' ceremony for Major at the hospital, he stayed four days at a DV suite on the beach with his family making good memories for his kids, so many good things came together to make Steve happy."
