Lt. Col. Hamby earns Bronze Star Medal

Col. Denette Sleeth, 45th Operations Group commander, congratulates Lt. Col. David L. Hamby, commander, Detachment 3, 45 OG  for his receipt of the Bronze Star Medal on Jan. 24. Colonel Hamby distinguished himself while engaged in ground operations as  commander of the 26th Expeditionary Rescue Squadron, Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, from Nov. 6, 2010 to March 2, 2011. He led the Air Force's busiest and most accomplished rescue squadron since Vietnam in the execution of more than 1,200 combat sorties, saving more than 300 lives. "Receiving the medal is defi nitely an honor and is really a testament to the outstanding work our rescue forces - our HH-60 and HC-130 crews and maintainers along with our Guardian Angel teams - have done and continue to do on a daily basis around the world," said Colonel Hamby.
