Command and control, recovery teams ride out Hurricane Matthew

The Patrick Air Force Base hurricane recovery team prepares to leave the installation and set up operations in an alternate location Oct. 5, 2016. Cape Canaveral Air Force Station also has a hurricane recovery team. The teams are comprised of security forces, civil engineers, medical personnel and other specialties who can assess storm damages and provide subject matter expert recommendations immediately following the storm. Throughout the time the team is deployed to an alternate location they are in constant contact with the wing's command and control teams, “Silver Team” at Kennedy Space Center and its back up, "Blue Team" at a secure site in Orlando. Together, the wing teams ran 24-hour operations and monitored the storm track from the day prior to the arrival of Hurricane Matthew through recovery operations. The 45th SW returned to normal operations within three days following the storm. (U.S. Air Force photo/Matthew Jurgens)
