45th Space Wing honors fallen astronauts at Apollo 1 memorial
The 45th Space Wing hosted a memorial ceremony honoring the 49th anniversary of the Apollo 1 tragedy Jan. 27, at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla. The memorial honored crew members, Lt. Col. Virgil I. Gus Grissom, command pilot, Lt. Col. Edward H. White II, senior pilot, and Lt. Commander, Roger B. Chaffee, pilot, who were killed by a flash fire during a launch pad test of their Saturn 1B rocket, Jan. 27, 1967. The memorial ceremony is traditionally held at Space Launch Complex 34, where the accident occurred, but was held indoors due to inclement weather. (U.S. Air Force photo/Matthew Jurgens) (Released)
