As many of you will soon be hearing, the Combined Federal Campaign kicks off today at our end-of-week Sports Week Awards Ceremony and picnic. It will continue to run for the next four weeks.

Since its inception in 1961, the CFC has raised more than $6 Billion dollars in charitable contributions. It is one of the most respected charitable initiatives in the world and has helped literally thousands of people in need.

The Space Coast has been an anchor in the program having raised well overĀ $5 Million since 2002 alone. This year for the first time in our Wing and Mission Partners' history, we've set a goal of $200,000.

In this economic climate, some may think we are biting off more than we can chew. Some may question whether we will find the means to reach this lofty number. However, it's in times like this when the needs are the greatest. So, we've set the bar high in order to help as many in need as possible.

While some see roadblocks ahead that could get in our way, we'd prefer to see them as opportunities to make a difference.

Secretary of State (and former First Lady) Hillary Clinton is the Honorary Chairperson for this year's campaign. She recently said, "If you've contributed in the past, you know how rewarding this program is. And if you've never contributed before, now is the perfect time to start. In these tough economic times, charities are working harder than ever, even as their budgets are shrinking, so help us meet the growing needs."

Secretary Clinton is spot on.

Lisa and I have only been here about six months now, but in that time, one thing is clear. Our community is resilient and understands what it's like to meet challenges head on and to find a way to come out on top.

This isn't the kind of community that lets down, especially when times get tough.

And our wing and mission partners certainly aren't intimidated by a challenge! We're counting on your kindness - and more importantly, so are your friends, neighbors and co-workers who really need the help.

Many organizations talk about making a difference. The CFC makes one.

Towards that end, please consider giving what you can during this year's CFC Campaign. Whether it's a lot or even if it's just a few dollars, you'll be part of something bigger than yourself and will help someone truly in need. Thanks again for all you do.
