Celebrate Independence safely

As always at the 45th Space Wing, safety is a critical priority. General Shelton's holiday message above reemphasizes this message. However you choose to celebrate the Fourth, Lisa and I simply ask you to do it safely. Added cautions this year are severe drought conditions and firework bans. Like drinking and driving or drinking and boating, they don't mix. Brevard County has banned private fireworks because of the fire risk.

Fireworks can be dangerous, the conditions are unsafe, and the bottom line is that we need to let the trained professionals put on the fireworks displays this year. As we prepare to celebrate the United States' 235th birthday, please take a moment to reflect on the history of our great nation. It is filled with challenges and opportunities for Americans and their allies to meet and overcome those obstacles.

From the Revolution to ensure independence from foreign rule, the Westward expansion across the continent, wars fought to protect our freedom, and space missions to the moon and beyond, the men and women of our Armed Forces have played a critical part in ensuring Americans' rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Finally, take a moment to keep our deployed members in your thoughts and prayers. There are 230+ Team Patrick members downrange.

As always, thank you for all you do.
