PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The 45th Space Wing is scheduled to undergo a base-wide inspection, known as a Cyber Command Readiness Inspection, or CCRI, from Sept. 12-16, 2016.
Inspectors will evaluate every aspect of the network, such as vulnerabilities of equipment, adherence to security policy, and the culture of security practices across the base and its tenant units.
The 45th Space Communications Squadron stood up a specialized team of individuals to help prepare and coordinate the units and organizations across Patrick Air Force Base and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida. The team has mitigated thousands of vulnerabilities and continues to work diligently with base organizations and tenant units.
Protecting the network; however, is a team effort.
Information Technology professionals cannot keep the network running smoothly without everyone’s help. Everyone on base, regardless of rank or position, plays an important role in securing the network and the information that flows through it every day.
The following are tips to help prepare for the upcoming inspection:
•Always remember to encrypt emails that contain work data or personal information.
•Restart your computer at the end of the day so it can receive required updates.
•Secure your Common Access Card and other tokens and be on the lookout for scam and phishing emails which could infect your computer with harmful viruses, malware and spyware.
•Find out who your Unit Security Managers and Cyber Support Liaisons are and how to contact them in the event of a security incident.
These few steps go a long way in helping to keep the network and its information secure.
As we continue to move closer to the inspection, always remember that the little steps help the mission and keeps rockets launching on the Space Coast.
