School starts soon; Let’s ‘be there’ for our kids

As many of you are well aware of, most schools in Brevard County start Aug. 18.

The start of a new school year is always an exciting time for our children; at least it always was in the Armagno household growing up - and for good reason.

As the daughter of two teachers, both my brothers and I learned first-hand the difference involved parenting can have on a child's positive school experience.

This is where you, the parents, come in.

If your child sees you interested about education, excited about what a solid education can mean to them down the road, then chances are that they, too, will find learning fun and worth the hard work it will take to be successful in life.

So please, I ask you to not only get involved with your child as the school year begins, but to STAY involved throughout this school year and every year from here on out.

The dividends they will get from your investment in their future will pay off big time down the road.

For the relative newcomers here at Team Patrick-Cape, with school-age children, please make sure you get to know our great folks at the Airman & Family Readiness Center (321-494-5675/76) with any questions you may have now, or in the future.

We have a designated School Liaison Officer, Reggie Logan, who is here to support you.

He is responsible for informing and connecting military families to the resources and information needed to maximize the educational opportunities to ensure academic success for military children in the Brevard County School District.

So what do you say? Let's all hop on the bus to success!

I hope all parents here will be there for their children.

And one more thing ...

Many children, no matter how many times we remind them, do not always remember that "look-both-ways-before-you-cross-the-street" gospel we've been singing to them since they were old enough to walk.

So please, we all need to be conscious of that, especially as we drive through any of our three housing areas, and around surrounding neighborhoods here on the Space Coast, especially just before and after school hours.

Thanks again for all you do - and will continue to do for our Air Force and our Nation.

Stay Focused, Sharks!
