Members of the 45th Space Wing took to the beach in teams of two for an endurance race April 10 behind the Beach House of Patrick AFB.

There were 29 teams that competed, and the winners received points toward the Commander's Cup, an award presented to the units with the greatest levels of physical fitness.

This year's Beach Endurance Race was more challenging than the previous year, and included approximately 5 kilometers or 3.1 miles of obstacles such as flipping telephone poles, performing push-ups in the ocean, and carrying an ammunition can full of sand from obstacle-to-obstacle.

"It is great to see all the different fitness levels compete in the event - it shows that it is for everyone and everyone can be successful," said Tammy Shelley, fitness and sports manager for the 45th Space Wing and organizer of the event.

1st Team:  Tuck/Winger - 45th Space Communications Squadron at 24 minutes and 12 seconds
