The holiday season "'tis the season for giving." One Patrick spouse is taking that old saying to the next level.

Jennifer Borondy, wife of Staff Sgt. Jason Borondy, 45th Medical Support Squadron, has gathered her resources at the Patrick Diaper Club and organized a drive to donate clothing and household goods to the less fortunate before Christmas.

She was inspired to create the drive after watching Oprah Winfrey give her audience members $1,000 each and instructed them to do something nice for strangers.

"That audience went out and the results were inspiring," she said. "They inspired me to reach out and help others."

Mary Johnson, 45th Medical Group family advocacy nurse and Diaper Club co-facilitator, said Mrs. Borondy rarely needs inspiration to help others.

"This is just one of many thing Jennifer has done," said Mrs. Johnson. "She is always looking for ways to help."

Mrs. Johnson said Mrs. Borondy giving her time for others by creating a Web site for Patrick mothers and a list of inexpensive activities for base new-comers, which Mrs. Johnson said she uses regularly in her newcomers' packages, are just a few examples of how she helps.

"She is the person we go to as the 'mother hen' to introduce new people on base and help them fit in," she said. "She's a real asset."

Mrs. Borondy is accepting "new and gently used" items, including clothing, toys, baby items, house ware, nonperishable and small furniture. The items collected may be added to items collected from a drive sponsored by the Patrick Youth Center or given to a separate charity, said Mrs. Borondy.

"I know many of us have enough to clothe and entertain several children," she said. "I want to reach out into the community and make a positive difference in someone else's life."

Donations will be accepted at the Diaper Club, Building 3650, in the Pelican Coast Housing Complex each Wednesday, 10-11 a.m., or the Life Skills, Building 1370, during normal operating hours until Dec. 20.

Those who cannot make the trip to drop off items can call Joyce Cardenas, Diaper Club co-facilitator, at 494-8171 to arrange pick-up.
