PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The Space Coast Company Grade Officer Association coordinated an exclusive tour of Air Force Technical Applications Center here with their CGO association, Jan. 13, 2017, to start off the new year.
This exciting kick-start to 2017 allowed a group of 20 SCCGOA members to experience a behind-the-scenes tour of AFTAC in order to learn about their mission and display some of their unique capabilities. The $158 million facility, built in 2014, houses the bulk of AFTAC's nuclear treaty monitoring mission, including its state-of-the-art Ciambrone Radiochemistry Laboratory that analyzes and assesses nuclear weapons testing compliance in support of the U.S. Atomic Energy Detection System.
"The mission and innovations contained within AFTAC are one of a kind," said one SCCGOA member. "It was eye opening to see the capabilities their people and technology are achieving."
From space launch to nuclear treaty compliance, our officers have a wide scope of knowledge they hope to share with others and the community. The SCGOA fosters this accumulation of knowledge as a foundation to facilitate personal and professional growth for the 45th Space Wing while expanding their own network of colleagues and mentors.
In addition to expanding each member’s understanding of the mission, the SCCGOA members routinely participate and volunteer in community events such as the Strawberry Festival, JROTC exchanges, voting and polling locations, high school sports and Twin Stars Therapeutic Riding Center.
