Let me start by saying thanks to the entire Shark Team for a successful exercise last  week. We tested many different areas and, while I was not able to see it first hand, I was constantly briefed and see that it was executed quite well. Good job!

I would especially like to thank the Inspector General and Exercise Evaluation teams for  putting together some great tests of our reactionary skills.

Our annual Sports Week kicked off Monday at the Cape with the opening ceremony. I was glad to see the entire base represented.

The week has been a great exercise in teamwork.

A big thanks to the Fitness Center Staff for all the planning and organizing that led to a  successful Sports Week. Congratulations to those that participated and the winning units that will be announced later today; the fields of friendly strife have served you well.

Finally, Columbus Day honors the discovery of our nation. It also means a long weekend  for most. I urge you to, please, be safe and make good choices this holiday weekend.

Leadership involvement at all levels, self discipline, risk management, as well as compliance with traffic laws, military regulations, and the protection that comes from basic common sense, can improve our chances of making it through this holiday safely.

While it is acceptable to have a few adult beverages, the most important part is to have a  plan.

A DUI is a life-altering experience. There are severe consequences for bad decisions.

Bottom line, do not drink and drive. PERIOD DOT!

There are many options available for those that have been drinking to avoid driving.

Airmen Against Drunk Driving will be in full force this weekend and they can be reached  at 321-494-7433. Use them. Take a taxi, call a friend, just don't get behind the wheel.

No matter your Columbus Day plans, be safe and keep pushing Sharks!
