Cape Canaveral Air Force Station returns to mission after Hurricane Matthew

Members of the 45th Space Wing offload a United Launch Alliance Atlas V booster from an Antonov aircraft Oct. 10, 2016. The aircraft safely landed on the Skid Strip on Oct. 9, 2016, at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., while the base was in recovery operations after Hurricane Matthew. The successful delivery Oct. 9 not only ensured the capability to proceed with the upcoming GOES-R (Geosynchronous Operational Environmental Satellite) mission, it also demonstrated the wing's return to full mission capability after CCAFS closed Oct. 6 in an effort to keep personnel and the installation safe during the Category 3 storm.
