The 45th Space Wing has entered Hurricane Condition V (HURCON V) and is currently taking actions to secure property in the event Hurricane Irma nears Space Coast facilities.  HURCON V normally indicates surface winds in excess of 58 mph (50 knots) could arrive within 96 hours; however, so that we can begin preparatory actions while still supporting a launch operation on Thursday we have declared HURCON 5 early.

Base personnel and base residents should begin preparing for the possible arrival of the storm. The 45th Space Wing commander is working closely with Florida and Brevard County officials and will post updates as the

situation unfolds. The wing and our mission partners are closely monitoring this storm and will direct actions as appropriate.

During HURCON V, 45th Space Wing will begin precautionary preparations to secure property and any launch infrastructure that may be exposed to storm conditions. All hurricane response teams are now on telephone standby and teams will soon begin to store outdoor items that could become projectiles in a storm.

Information can also be found at the 45th Space Wing at Patrick Air Force Base, Fla., Facebook page and twitter page (45th Space Wing) and www.patrick.af.mil for further information and updates, including return to base and duty notifications. Base personnel should continue to update and/or monitor their contact and location information status via the Air Force Personnel Accountability and Assessment System (AFPAAS) at https://afpaas.af.mil every four hours for updates.
